Heads Up Poker Couture
Okay, everyone is reviewing the red carpet today and talking about what the stars wore to the Oscars. Well, I’m going to have a little fun and review another red carpet — the red carpet at the NBC Heads Up Poker event. So, let’s sit back for a little poker couture.
First, T-shirts are in for this year’s poker crowd, at least for the men? Joe Cada is rocking a Poker Stars T-shirt while Kara Scott is doing the ladies proud with a red dress and a not-so-discreet Party Poker pin. But then, a girl has to promote her sponsor. Daniel Negreanu tops the list of men who top their Ts with jackets. His is a black and yellow number while Don Cheadle is in snazzy grey stripes for Full Tilt Poker. Phil Laak is in basic black while Jennifer Tilly brings the green in a camo-patterned dress.
Orel Hershiser is in a striped button down in yellow and purple. Obviously a strategic decision to melt his opponents eyeballs at the table. And while “ElkY” may be among the most feared players on the circuit, he’s looking a bit “deer in the headlights” when it comes to the cameras. (Note: if you play him, just bring a camera and scare him.) Doyle Brunson, well, the master is there to show the young uns how it’s done in his classy jacket and classic cowboy hat.
Phil Hellmuth is a tall pillar of black if he weren’t having a good time, I’d be scared. Vanessa Rousso is in a leather jacket rather than a dress but that jacket has as many sponsor patches as a NASCAR car. Any more sponsors and she’ll need to wear a hat to list them on. Erik Seidel is in a brown Full Tilt jacket and looks only slightly less scared of the cameras than “ElkY” does. While Patrik Antonious is completely comfortable standing out in his white blazer. Okay, the man is handsome, even with that Full Tilt logo slapped on his chest.
Italian poker star Dario Minieri looks about 12. The probably carded him going into the casino. Though according to his sweat shirt, he’s joined both Poker Stars and the Army. I think one of those is probably just a fashion statement. Speaking of young players, Annette Obrestad is finally 21 and able to play in Vegas. She’s rocking a red and black outfit appropriate to hearts and spades.
I can’t find a picture of winner Annie Duke on the red carpet, but photos I can find show her in a black shirt and pants with WSOP Academy on one side of the top and UB.net on the other. Now, this is the problem being a woman. Men may be able to plaster just about anything on their chest, but ladies tend to look like each of the girls has a different sponsor. But with 500,000 she can wear any outfit she wants.
